CHICKADEE WAITING FOR WHAT THE DAY BRINGS

WAITING FOR WHAT THE DAY BRINGS
6 X 6 OIL ON PANEL
SOLD
I have painted this little bird before and each time he has a bit of a different look. This painting is a little warmer in tone and a bit softer. I used it as a warm up painting to get back in the swing of things after the holidays. Wow, is the house ever quiet after having family visiting this week.

APPLES ON A ROLL

ON A ROLL
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL

Apples are always fun to do. We think of them as just red or green, but when you really look hard at them you see so many beautiful colors. The actual painting is a lot richer looking than the image on my monitor. Something about photographing reds again. They are transparent and I think the camera just can't see it like our eyes can. I found this elegant vase at a little antique shop in Fairhope for six dollars and I just love it.

ENCHANTMENT BY THE SEASIDE

12 X 12 OIL ON STRETCHED CANVAS SOLD
This beach scene is a nice memory of warmer October days at the beach on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Today, it is unlikely that anyone will be swimming as we have an unusual early cold spell in the low thirties.

RED DAISIES AND APPLES

14 X 11 OIL ON STRETCHED CANVAS
This warm floral still life was a joy to do although I had to work hard to make it look simple... constantly softening edges and re-establishing the drawing. I took this photo outside in sunlight. The photo I took in the shade made it look like an entirely different, cool painting. Reds are hard to photograph accurately.

BOVINE BEAUTIES

12 X 12 OIL ON STRETCHED CANVAS
This weekend I took a workshop with a great artist, WD Thompson. He does lovely glowing oils with a lot of palette knife. You can see his work at wdthompsonart.com. I felt that I was in a bit of a rut with my painting and a workshop with an artist whose work I admired just might be the fix. Did I ever have fun loosening up and playing with the palette knife. I did this impressionistic painting of cows yesterday and I think it has a pleasing freshness.

WINDOW WITH A VIEW

14 X 19 OIL ON 300LB GESSOED D'ARCHES
This is a floral still life I did a while back and have never posted. As this painting is on extremely heavyweight gessoed paper, it can be matted and framed under glass or mounted and framed.
