TACKY JACK'S by ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK

9 x 12 oil on panel
This is another of the paintings I did on site at the Gulf Shores plein air event earlier the is month.
I find nothing leisurely about painting outdoors as one has to paint like the possessed to capture the changing light.  I love my studio!

VIEW FROM PIRATES COVE BY ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK

9 X 12 OIL ON HARDBOARD PANEL
This is one of the paintings I did a couple of weeks ago in the plein air event that was hosted in Gulf Shores.  The staff at the Pirates Cove restaurant was kind enough to let me set up in the shade on their back porch.  This was a dreamy location for a plein air painter.  I am really accustom to the comforts of my studio but I thought I would give this a shot.  My hat goes off to all the out door painters!
Also I found that the cheeseburgers the rustic Pirates Cove restaurant are truly outstanding and the view is magnificent.

ADORABLE IN BLUE AT THE BEACH

9 X 12 OIL ON HARD BOARD CANVAS PANEL
This is a one hour demo I painted for my workshop a couple of weeks ago.
This figure was a lot darker than the background with a few touches of light hitting.
Keeping the edges soft lends more of an impression of movement.  The figures in the background
were painting with just a couple of stokes capturing the gesture..

9 x 12 oil on CANVAS PANEL
This is one of the  oil paintings I did as a demo in my workshop this last weekend.
We had a lot of fun painting in Fairhope and hopefully learned a few new things.
I loved painting with my new artist friends.  Thank you all!

LOVELY PENSIVE MODEL

12 BY 9 OIL ON PANEL
I have been away in Taos Ski Valley at Carolyn Anderson's workshop.  Wow, was it ever a great workshop hosted at the Hotel ST. Bernard which has a 5 star chef and the most accomodating staff ever.
This is the first model I painted, in about a 3 hour sitting.  I love Carolyn Anderson's soft dreamy technique!  She uses a lot of transparent oil colors and stresses the incorporation of the background to create a pleasing solid painting.

BLUE HYDRANGEAS WITH BANANAS AND ORIENTAL JAR

24 X 18 OIL ON CANVAS
I set up the hydrangeas to paint, realized I had no time to paint while fresh, so I photographed them. Then started the painting from the photo.  Anyway I ended up buying more flowers and setting up the still life again.  It is pretty amazing how much more you see from real life rather than photos.
After I finished I wrote this poem below..( remember I am not a poet!)

AN ARTIST SOLILOQUY

Compose the painting, block in big shapes
Don’t care how long it takes

Uh-Oh running off the edge
Wipe out now, don’t try to hedge

Slash in those dark
with big bold marks

Lay in that color with strokes of power
Make  color sing like a passion flower

Check the values, check the light
Try to avoid an eyeball fight

Gee, the shapes are jumping out of position
Could it be the color transition?

Looking a bit Ho-Hum, as feared
Darn! the darks have disappeared

Put them back and some edges lose
instead of going for that booze

Now looks like I am getting there soon
Hope so or I will turn into a loon!

BIRD VASE WITH FLOWERS AND APPLES

8 X 10 OIL ON CANVAS
Painting white is always a challenge.  Lots of different colors involved to keep the whites lively and not pasty.  Absolutely no pure white used. Constantly asking is this section warm or cool.

ORIENTAL DISH WITH PEARS

8 X 10 OIL ON CANVAS
There is something fascinating about painting this little blue oriental dish.  I am beginning to feel like I have a personal relationship with it.  When I start talking to it, I will seek counseling.. Uh oh I think I did I did say "darn you" when painting the design... or something similar.
The pampered pear in the dish looks like she might be having little pears soon...but that's the way it was and I painted as is.

I have scheduled an oil painting WORKSHOP  October 28th and 29th in beautiful Fairhope, Alabama at the Fairhope Artist Gallery.    I am taking no more than ten artists, so sign up soon if you want to take the workshop.  Email me for more information.

LEMON WITH 2 FIGS

6 X 6 OIL ON WOOD PANEL
Vast color transitions in the figs called for a lot of equal value color placement.
Being conscious of the planes of the fruit I laid down luscious thick paint.
Worked harder than I wanted to get the nice fresh look.

HYDRANGEAS, FIGS AND LEMONS by Elizabeth Blaylock

20 X 16 OIL ON CANVAS
 SOLD
I painted this oil  from a still life I set up.    I was glad I photographed it on the first day
because those brown turkey figs lose their luscious colors very quickly.   They were huge and delicious by the way.
Painting all the beautiful colors in the white areas is always a fun challenge.

It's wonderful to have color in this world...what would your rainbows be without it.
Thank you God!!!

LITTLE GIRL WITH THE FLOPPY HAT (2) BY ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK

20 X 16 OIL ON CANVAS
Imagine the feeling awe and excitement this little beach pixie has running to splash in the surf!  She is totally in the moment...the only place where God is present.   I need two tickets to the present please... oh that right its free.
Glad to paint again,  I have been tied up all year running this rv park.   Slower season coming up and I will have time to paint and recreate.  Got to go now...I have to look for my big floppy hat !

ORGANIC PEPPER PARADE

10 x 8 OIL ON CANVAS
$375
I loved painting the green glass of the olive oil bottle with the  shiny strips on the label.  Painting the colorful peppers is always fun.  Would like to say that the veggies are from my organic garden put the pepper harvest was slim here this year
I have been on  organic  foods all year and I find the food much tastier.   Also lost 35 pounds eating all I wanted.   I think preservatives must make you fat (and of course all the sugar they put in processed foods).

COLORFUL SHRIMP BOATS AT REST

8 X 10 OIL ON CANVAS sold

This boat painting was the second demo I painted in my workshop.  The goal here was to keep it loose and colorful,  placing colors of equal value next to each other to give it a little razzle-dazzle.
