This watercolor sketch was done on yupo paper. Boy is it slick!

I play around with watercolors every once in a while. They are a whole different story in art technique. The nice thing about this paper is that you can just totally wash out areas that you don't like. I did that a lot. I really have to work in watercolors everyday for two weeks before I get into the flow of it. Anyway, I am quiet happy with this one. It still looks fresh even tho it was labored over.

As I have mentioned before, painting flowers is generally harder than you would think, particularly sunflowers. I struggled with this one a bit but I think I got it working. As yellow is such a high value color getting the shadows right on the petals can be tricky.

What kind of bird is this????!!!!! I have looked through all my bird books and searched the internet and I can't find it anywhere. If you know the name of this bird please email me! It is about 5" long and was at my bird feeder. It has a rich brown back and a black and white patterned belly. It is really unique looking isn't it? I have never seen one like it.

These little birds like to build their rock nests on gravel roads or around rocks. Their eggs are spotted black and white and blend into the surroundings so well they are really hard to see. I look for them every spring around our little lake and flag the ones on the roadside so the cars want run over them.When you get near the nests they try to lead you away by faking a broken wing and hopping away screeching.
