OIL PAINTING OF A PINK ZINNIA IN A GOLD RIMMED GLASS

PINK ZINNIA IN A GOLD RIMMED GLASS
6 X 6 OIL ON PANEL
I had a dark background on this originally and then, lightened it up because I felt it looked to harsh. As a result I had to lighten all the values on the glass. I like it much better but what a lot of work. I thought I was finished then I ended up painting the whole thing over again!

APPLES ON A BLUE PLATE WITH KNIFE

RED APPLES ON A BLUE PLATE
6 X 6 OIL ON PANEL
I simplified the apples using broad strokes of color to define the planes. The knife was put an angle to bring you back into the picture. I was wishing I had a more interesting looking knife, but I don't believe I ever seen a really cool paring knife.

OIL PAINTING OF YELLOW FLOWERS IN A JAR

YELLOW FLOWERS SOLD
6 X 6 OIL ON RAYMAR PANEL
This is a different angle of the same flowers I did a couple of days ago. I was really pleased with the way this one turned out-loose and fresh. So much so, that I decided to make some changes in the larger version. I will post that one again in a couple of days.

OIL PAINTING OF SEA GULL WONDERING 'WHERE'S THE BEEF'

"WHERE THE BEEF'
5 X 7 OIL ON PANEL
I like painting these little guys. There is just something about sea gulls that frees me up to just have fun with the painting. I finished this one yesterday but was just to pooped to post.

APPLES IN PURPLE BOWL WITH KNIFE

APPLES IN PURPLE BOWL WITH KNIFE
6 X 6 OIL ON PANEL
SOLD
I tried to think of a more creative title but nothing comes to mind right now. Any ideas?
Yes, it is the purple, bowl again and I have a couple of more compositions with the same bowl that I plan to do. And don't miss the pickle jar in the background, too. Tomorrow I may do a bird just for a nice quiet purple break, but then I do have an indigo bunting hanging out at my feeder, hmmm.

OIL PAINTING OF GLASS REUNION

GLASS REUNION
12 X 12 OIL ON RAYMAR PANEL
This painting turned out to be a little more work than I anticipated. Usually I like to play around with colors more, but when painting glass, any changes would alter the colors in the glass. So I stayed with the colors in the setup, with just a little push here and there.

OIL PAINTING OF APPLES IN A PURPLE BOWL

APPLES IN PURPLE
12 X 12 OIL ON PANEL
This week, I went to Old Time Pottery to find some new and different items to paint. As I have mentioned before when painting everyday, finding interesting subject matter is always a challenge. I am just not entertained painting the same subject over and over and over again. That requires a more creative mind than I am blessed with. The purple bowl and the red cup look pretty good together. I really like this little purple bowl and I am sure you will be seeing it again in other paintings.

OIL PAINTING OF RED APPLES ON VIOLET

REDS APPLES ON VIOLETS
6 X 5 OIL ON VIOLET
Getting the transition from red to green on the front apple was tricky. I used a little light crimson to ease the change. I always seem to have trouble photographing reds especially alizarin crimson. I suppose because it is such a transparent color.

YELLOW ZINNIA WITH FRIENDS IN A GLASS VASE

YELLOW ZINNIA AND FRIENDS
8 X 5 OIL ON GESSOED 300LB PAPER
This colorful little painting is one that I did a while back. I have used this little crystal vase in dozens of paintings. The flowers were some I grew. Unfortunately my garden is a weedy mess, as who has the time or the energy to garden especially, in this 95 degree heat.

OIL PAINTING OF PINK FLOWER IN A GLASS VASE

IMPROMPTU ARRANGEMENT
7 X 5 OIL ON PANEL
It always fun painting glass vases with water. I like the colorful shapes of the reflected and refracted light. I am always looking for simple glass vases that would be interesting to paint. This little vinaigrette cruet fit the bill.

OIL PAINTING OF OLIVES ALL DECKED OUT FOR THE PARTY

OLIVES ALL DECKED OUT FOR THE PARTY
36 X 24.5 OIL ON GALLERY WRAPPED CANVAS
This is a painting that I did a while back and forgot to posted. It is a larger painting that would look good in a large dining area or maybe a restaurant.
I have not had time to paint much this week as I have been dealing with the bp disaster paper work. No fun here. We have a small RV Park in Gulf Shores and business has come to a grinding, screeching halt. I try not to talk about negative things but this disaster is overwhelming to the people on the Gulf Coast and need I mention the devastating effect on our environment..
Well, under the circumstances, I feel a little trivial trying to sell paintings but

OIL PAINTING OF LITTLE GIRL IN RED ON THE BEACH

LITTLE GIRLS DELIGHT SOLD
8 X 10 OIL ON CANVAS BOARD
We went to the beach in Gulf Shores on Sunday and there were only a 5th of the people usually there. Those that came were enjoying the sun and wading (and a few swimming despite the red flag) . There were lots of little globs of oil but it did not seem to bother the few people there. I got some on my feet which a little dish soap took care of. I did not smell any oil but I am sure in some areas it is there. I did not see any BP people cleaning up the beach.

OIL PAINTING OF COLORFUL SPOTTED BUTTERFLY

SPOTTED BEAUTY SOLD

Painting all the lovely patterns and colors on this beautiful butterfly was a pleasant challenge. I do not have any idea what kind of butterfly this is but he (or she???) was enjoying the zinnias on my deck and I snapped a reference photo with my phone.

OIL PAINTING OF MITZI'S SILVER PITCHER

MITZI'S SILVER CREAMER SOLD
6 X 6 OIL ON PANEL
This is a creamer that belongs to my cousin Mitzi. One of the things I do when I go to visit friends and family is raid their china cabinet looking for different things to paint. When you paint everyday one sometimes gets desperate for interesting things to paint. I took the reference photo with my cell phone under existing light which was overhead and from two sides resulting in a multitude of highlights. Believe it or not I did simplify them but perhaps, not quiet enough?

OIL PAINTING OF AN ORANGE AND BUNCH OF BANANAS

ORANGE AND BANANAS
7 X 5 OIL ON PANEL
It was hard to get back in the swing of things after taking a couple of days off. As a matter of fact I am still not in the swing. I struggled with another painting most of the day and it is not there yet. Painting fruit is always fun with all the nice colors and shapes. I think it is time to go the market and get some more pretty fruits and vegetables.
