PAINTING BY ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK OF KILLDEER PROTECTING THE NEST

KILLDEE  ON GUARD SOLD
6 X 6 OIL ON PANEL
These little birds like to build their rock nests on gravel roads or around rocks. Their eggs are spotted black and white and blend into the surroundings so well they are really hard to see. I look for them every spring around our little lake and flag the ones on the roadside so the cars want run over them. When you get near the nests they try to lead you away by faking a broken wing and hopping away screeching.

Love this little bird and his purple leg. So many beautiful colors in your palette!
