BLUE CRAB WITH PURPLE

20 X 20 OIL ON CANVAS
I am working on a series of 20 x 20 oils of  Alabama coastal wildlife.  As usual, I am going funky and colorful rather than realistic.  Don't think you will find them on a species id site!

YELLOW FLOWERS IN A BRASS POT by Elizabeth Blaylock

12 X 12 OIL ON HARDBOARD CANVAS PANEL

I always strive for a painting that has SONG and DANCE....I want the colors to sing and the subject to dance across the canvas.

VIEW FROM PIRATES COVE BY ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK

9 X 12 OIL ON HARDBOARD PANEL
This is one of the paintings I did a couple of weeks ago in the plein air event that was hosted in Gulf Shores.  The staff at the Pirates Cove restaurant was kind enough to let me set up in the shade on their back porch.  This was a dreamy location for a plein air painter.  I am really accustom to the comforts of my studio but I thought I would give this a shot.  My hat goes off to all the out door painters!
Also I found that the cheeseburgers the rustic Pirates Cove restaurant are truly outstanding and the view is magnificent.

BLUE HYDRANGEAS WITH BANANAS AND ORIENTAL JAR

24 X 18 OIL ON CANVAS
I set up the hydrangeas to paint, realized I had no time to paint while fresh, so I photographed them. Then started the painting from the photo.  Anyway I ended up buying more flowers and setting up the still life again.  It is pretty amazing how much more you see from real life rather than photos.
After I finished I wrote this poem below..( remember I am not a poet!)

AN ARTIST SOLILOQUY

Compose the painting, block in big shapes
Don’t care how long it takes

Uh-Oh running off the edge
Wipe out now, don’t try to hedge

Slash in those dark
with big bold marks

Lay in that color with strokes of power
Make  color sing like a passion flower

Check the values, check the light
Try to avoid an eyeball fight

Gee, the shapes are jumping out of position
Could it be the color transition?

Looking a bit Ho-Hum, as feared
Darn! the darks have disappeared

Put them back and some edges lose
instead of going for that booze

Now looks like I am getting there soon
Hope so or I will turn into a loon!

HYDRANGEAS, FIGS AND LEMONS by Elizabeth Blaylock

20 X 16 OIL ON CANVAS
 SOLD
I painted this oil  from a still life I set up.    I was glad I photographed it on the first day
because those brown turkey figs lose their luscious colors very quickly.   They were huge and delicious by the way.
Painting all the beautiful colors in the white areas is always a fun challenge.

It's wonderful to have color in this world...what would your rainbows be without it.
Thank you God!!!

COLORFUL SHRIMP BOATS AT REST

8 X 10 OIL ON CANVAS sold
$325 plus shipping
This boat painting was the second demo I painted in my workshop.  The goal here was to keep it loose and colorful,  placing colors of equal value next to each other to give it a little razzle-dazzle.

HUMMING A NEW SONG

8 X 10 OIL ON CANVAS  SOLD
Hummingbirds are such fascinating little birds.  This one was in the crepe myrtle tree outside my sunroom window.  Hummingbirds are the tiniest birds on earth.   I always thought they sipped nectar up through that long beak, but I read that they lap up the nectar with their skinny little  tongues.
