This beach bird will be auctioned to benefit the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, Children's Hospital of Alabama.

The silent auction will take place during "AN  EVENING UNDER THE STARS"  gala event, Saturday Feb 22, hosted by the famed Wash House Restaurant,17111 Scenic HWY 98,

Point Clear, Alabama

Tickets are  $25

This painting along with 40 other paintings by Alabama artists will be on display there starting  February 3 Before the golf tournament on Saturday, February 23, 2013  a hot air balloon will drop up to 1000 numbered golf balls.  If your number matches the golf ball that goes in the hole or is closest to the pin you will win 50% of the Ball Drop proceeds!   It is easy to purchase your ball and you don’t need to be present to win.  Simply use the link below to purchase as many balls as you would like.

I am a little over half-way through with this painting of  children playing at the beach.  I am being careful to keep the figures loose and impressionistic, especially since they are in motion.

GIRL IN A STRIPED SWIMSUIT PLAYING AT THE SURF'S EDGE

This is the finished figurative painting I started as a demo in my recent workshop. I livened up the flesh tones by adding some cool reds in the shadows on the flesh.   Also, brought out some patterns and colors in the surf.    A lot of thick paint was applied on the water with the reflections.  Keep in mind that oil paint applied thickly with one stroke of the brush or palette knife will have a freshness and luster all on it's on.

Although I like the fresh, abstract feel of this 45 minute painting, I plan to carry it a bit further.

Remember, look for the shapes, have a warm or cool dominance and allow the eye to be led around the canvas. Don't forget soften some of those edges!

I had a great group of fun and talented artist for my workshop in Foley, Alabama this weekend..

Jill and Kathleen escaped before we made the photos.  I need to remember to get photographs in the beginning!.   Ava Jane Newell  brought over 8 of  her group from the Art Barn in Brookhaven, MS.

I had so much fun with all of them I almost feel guilty for getting paid!

This is beach bird oil I painted a while back and gave a redo, not once, but twice.  I like him much better now.  I could not believe how fat he was but, really,  I triple checked.  I have the same problem when looking in the mirror.
