Mack was a fabulous model for the open studio painting session at the Foley Performing Art Center.  This loose and colorful oil sketch was from a 2 hour sitting.  It was nice to paint with some other artist for a change..

I  like all the stacked abstract color shapes of the brushes.  Painting the label on a curved object is always a challenge.....I wanted it impressionistic and fresh .  Sooo.... is this abstract impressionism????!!

On a little side note,  I am on my 29th day of no smoking.  Prayers please!!!!.    Needless to say, I am way on the nervous side.  I may have a nervous breakdown but I will not be smoking nasty cigarettes!!!

Okay, I finally had some time to paint after a busy 4th of July  working at our RV park in Gulf Shores.  I have company coming this week, too,  so I may not get to paint as much as I need but hopefully I want forget everything.  After working on this painting for two days, I was beginning to wonder!!  Best to paint everyday if you can!

These colorful little birds are at my feeder everyday. Maybe that'a why he is so fat!

The transition from red to dark stripes is very tricky.  I am always amazed by the beautiful patterns on these  birds.

This figurative beach scene  is a very loosely done acrylic quick sketch.  I decided I needed to loosen up .  When you are working with photos, there is a  hazard of becoming a slave to the image and you could end up just copying.and neglecting some major creative elements.  I plan on doing more of these and also I have priced them substantially lower than my finished oils.

LEMONS WITH AN ORIENTAL TWIST

Lately, it seems doing a quick sketch  is a thing of the past.  I wanted to do this really loose and quick but spent  all day on this little oil painting with  lemons  I really like the little oriental  dish that I found at the flea market and I am sure you will see it again in other paintings.  Although I photographed this in natural light it seems too washed out from the original.    I have a great camera but am wondering if I need a new digital card.

DUSK OVER ST. AUGUSTINE SKYLINE

5 X 7 OIL ON HARDBOARD PANEL  SOLD

This painting is a departure for me as I rarely, if ever paint dusk or sunset scenes.  Wow, and it was not an easy task!!!   Better mix up your grays and carefully check your values for this type of painting   Oh, and don't forget to keep in mind your wind currents for the clouds!!

This is the view from the Edgewater Inn across the Lions Bridge in St Augustine. We stayed there after the show and it is great!!  All the rooms have a deck with rocking chairs on the back porch looking over the St. Augustine skyline.  I lived  in St. Augustine 28 years ago and boy has it grown. Wonderful art, galleries and food..  I had the best gyro sandwich ever at the Athena Restaurant downtown at Cathedral Place.
