I had company last week and this week I have been sick with a cold so I am a little behind on my painting. I did this oil a while back from a photo I took at the New Orleans zoo (I think). I usually go the zoo in every city I visit so I could be wrong about the location. I could not remember the exact type of sunbird they are and found that there are many different types of sunbirdS. Do any of you know which one these are?

This is the first time I have done eggs that I can remember. They are really a lot of fun to paint. Maybe they are fascinating because a living creature emerges from them! Unless you eat them of course. When painting a white object you must really look for the colors in them which are reflected from what is around them.

I love the little green dessert dish with the bright red of the berries. When using bright red and bright green. it is sometimes tough to keep the painting unified as these are opposite on the color wheel. I made sure I repeated the reds and greens in other areas of the painting .

Well, I am giving everyone a break from beach scenes. This week will be mostly fruit still lifes. I am working with fairly large brush and trying to complete the painting with it, going smaller for really little details. I am finding that the painting goes a whole lot quicker this way as I am covering a lot of area quickly.

Zinnias are one of my favorite flowers because they grow in so many beautiful colors and as you know I love painting colorful scenes. One of the hardest things about painting everyday is finding interesting subjects.

PURPLE ASTER SOLD

Painting in acrylics is a departure from the norm for me. I used one of those "stay wet" palettes and it did keep the paints wet for three days. Maybe a little wetter than I wanted as I am used to full bodied oils. I really liked the easy clean-up after painting, too. Those of you that have seen my paintings before may recognize the little egg vase. It's one of my favorites. I found it at a little antique shop in Fairhope years ago.

I always enjoy painting figures on the beach. The hard part is getting an un-posed and natural photo of them to work from. This is a pretty typical scene. The kids always are fascinated by the ocean. I have heard them say "WOW, that's a big pond" when seeing it for the first time.

The black birds are frequenting my feeder more than I like as they run off some of the smaller birds. But his shiny iridescent coat was fun to paint.
