HUMMINGBIRD AT REST
5 X 7 OIL ON CANVAS PANEL
This little guy comes to my feeder regularly. I thought about naming it Hummingbird in Grape Tree. The little pods are actually in the crepe myrtle tree where I have my feeder, but they really look a lot like grapes.
If you are a regular visitor, you noticed that my prices went up a little because art supplies went way up!! Buying quality materials is very expensive. Thanks for visiting and if you have any questions or would like to buy the hummingbird email me at eliblaylock@yahoo.com.

OIL PAINTING OF RED CUP WITH PENCILS

PENCILS IN RED CUP SOLD
5 X 7 OIL ON PANEL
Today, I did not want to paint at all. I am tired tired tired. Considering this, I think this little painting turned out pretty good. I would like to do it again on a day I feel more energized to see how it would turn out. I have painted two other paintings this week, that I will post at a later date. One is a larger fish painting and the other a little painting to enter in a show.

BEACH PARTY AT THE PASS

GETTING SETTLED SOLD
5 X 7 OIL ON PANEL
These folks were at the pass in Gulf Shores on the bay side. The weather here is in the 80s everyday now, so it is the perfect time to go to the beach. Reflections in the water are always fun to do. Again, catching the gesture of the figures can really tell a story.

SURF FISHERMEN SOLD
6 x 6 OIL ON PANEL
This is another demonstration I did in my workshop. This little painting was a lot of fun to do. Catching the simple gesture of the figures with as few strokes as possible is a major element in the charm of this painting.

BEACH STRIPES
12 x 16 OIL ON BOARD
This is another one of the demonstrations I did for my Fairhope workshop. I plan to do a few more little things to it but I have not had time this week. Also I wanted to show some of the my students work but I did not get all of the photos and I hated to show some and not all. They did a great job on some difficult subjects. If you have questions or would like to purchase this painting email me at eliblaylock@yahoo.com

SUNFLOWERS WAVING IN THE BREEZE

SUNFLOWERS SOLD
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL
This is the first sunflower painting I have ever done, and possibly the last.
Those little beauties are HARD HARD HARD to do. I think it is because yellow is so high on the value scale and then you have those big dark centers. Working out the value transitions is tricky! Anyway I grew these sunflowers and have had the photos of them for years. To me, painting figures is a snap compared to flowers.
If you are interested in purchasing this painting (it is one of a kind) email me at eliblaylock@yahoo.com

SURF PIXIE

GIRL PLAYING IN THE SURF SOLD
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL
I thought I would do some figure paintings for a while. I want to keep them loose and fresh. The beach is always a good place to find people in all kinds of poses. The weather is beautiful here and the beaches are packed, so getting reference material should be easy.

BEE-HAVEN SOLD
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL
This is something a little different from my normal subjects. I was browsing through some of my old reference photos and came upon the photo of this bee. One of the good things about doing these small daily paintings is you are more open to experimentation. DESSERT PEAR SOLD
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL
Fruit is always fun to paint and I needed some relief after painting pansies!
Those little botanicals are so complicated. The whole time I am working on them I am saying like a mantra simplify simplify simplify. I will be posting another pansy tomorrow. Anyway, the pear painting was a sweet relief. If you are interested in this painting email me at eliblaylock@yahoo.com

PURPLE PANSIES
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL
SOLD
The spring flowers are popping up all over and I love it. I find painting flowers is always a challenge. You really have to simplify and keep subtle value changes to catch their soft color changes. If you would like to purchase this painting or have questions email me at eliblaylock@yahoo.com

MR HUMMINGBIRD

MR. HUMMINGBIRD
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL
This little fellow was really hard to catch on camera. He moves quick! I do not know what kind of hummingbird this is. He has red on his throat and a white ring around his neck which you can't see here. Hummingbirds are always fascinating to watch and to paint with all their iridescent colors. If you have questions or would like to purchase this painting email me at eliblaylock@yahoo.com

MR. MALLARD DUCK

MR. MALLARD SOLD
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL
For questions or purchasing email me at eliblaylock@yahoo.com This is one of the ducks I raised a few years ago. I needed ducks to eat the snails that were invading my garden. Also I heard they keep snakes away. Unfortunately, Mr. Mallard is no longer with us as he flew the coop or he got too friendly with a coyote.

WHERE'S A PENCIL SOLD
5 X 7 OIL ON PANEL
I always have plenty of writing implements around, but when I need a pencil or just a plain pen, it seems I have everything in the world but that. I buy huge packs of pencils, but then the questions becomes where's the pencil sharpener, or where 's the batteries for the pencil sharpener.

ROSE WITH APPLE
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL
For questions or purchasing email me at eliblaylock@yahoo.com This is an old fashion tea rose. They bloom here almost all year long. I love them because their colors change from white to pink to red. My other roses are starting to bloom and the first blooms are always the most beautiful.

COUPLE WALKING THE SURF

WALKING THE SURF
5 x 7 OIL ON PANEL

This is another little beach scene I did last week. The weather here today has not been quiet that nice. It has poured down all day. All the little spring flowers are going to be so happy as it has rained very little in the last two months. They need a good start as they get very little help from me. I did manage to finish three little paintings today and I am quiet pleased about that. I wanted to get ahead a little, as this weekend is the Fairhope Arts and Crafts Show and I will be in the Fairhope Artist Gallery, demonstrating and helping with sales. If you are in the area come by and see me.
